Severe or worsening toothache
Dental or facial swelling or a possible abscess
Broken, cracked or chipped tooth, with or without pain
Knocked-out tooth, adult or permanent tooth
Lost filling, loose or lost crown, veneer or bridge
Bleeding or injury after an accident
Broken denture or sharp edges causing soreness
Orthodontic problems causing pain, for example a broken wire

How We Help On The Day
Your comfort comes first. In your emergency visit we aim to ease pain, settle the area and explain your choices clearly.
A focused assessment and digital X-rays if needed, to find the cause quickly
Pain relief and gentle local anaesthesia where appropriate, to help you feel more comfortable
Temporary or definitive care, for example dressing a cavity, re-cementing a crown or smoothing sharp edges
Draining or managing a build-up and prescribing antibiotics if your symptoms suggest a spreading problem
Clear advice and a follow-up plan for any further treatment you might choose
Practical Advice Before Your Appointment
Simple steps at home can help until you are seen.
Pain relief: Over the counter paracetamol or ibuprofen can help if suitable for you and not contraindicated. Follow the label and recommended doses. Do not place aspirin on the gum.
Swelling: Apply a cold compress on and off to the cheek to ease discomfort.
Bleeding after trauma: Apply gentle, steady pressure with clean gauze or a cloth.
Knocked-out adult tooth: Hold the tooth by the crown (the top), not the root. If it is clean, gently rinse and try to place it back into the socket, then bite on a clean cloth. If you cannot replant it, keep it moist in milk or saliva and come to us urgently. Do not reimplant a baby tooth.
Broken tooth or lost filling: Keep any fragments and avoid chewing on that side.
Try to avoid very hot or cold foods, and limit sugary snacks until you have been seen.

Clear Fees And Transparent Planning
Before any treatment begins, we will explain the emergency appointment fee and likely costs for stabilising care. Our priority is to get you comfortable and make the situation safe. Once you feel better, we will talk you through the suitable options for longer term care, including benefits, risks and fees. You can then decide what feels right for you.
Who We See And Where Patients Come From
You do not need to be registered with us to access urgent care at Regent Dental, subject to availability. We regularly support patients from Cononley village centre and across the wider Aire Valley, including Cross Hills, Farnhill, Kildwick, Bradley, Silsden and Skipton. If you live or work near these areas, our Ilkley practice offers calm, professional care when you need it most.
What To Expect After Your Urgent Visit
Many emergencies can be settled quickly, and sometimes full treatment can be completed there and then. It depends on the problem and the time required. If it is not appropriate to finish everything on the day, we will provide a safe, comfortable temporary solution and then arrange a follow-up appointment for more comprehensive care. Same day appointments are often possible when you call early, and our reception team will always try to offer the soonest suitable time.
If you have not visited us before, you are welcome to attend for emergency care. We will carry out a focused assessment for the immediate concern, then guide you through any next steps. If your symptoms suggest a spreading problem, antibiotics may be used when clinically appropriate, for example if there are signs it is affecting your general health. Most dental issues are best managed with local treatment rather than antibiotics alone. We will explain our thinking in simple terms so you feel confident about the plan.

Our Approach To Comfort And Clarity
From the moment you contact us, our aim is to reduce worry and restore comfort. Your clinician will listen carefully, examine the area and use digital X-rays where helpful to reach a clear diagnosis.
We will then talk through what is happening, outline your immediate choices to control the situation and explain any longer term solutions that could support your oral health. You will receive straightforward aftercare instructions and a clear summary of any next steps. We want you to feel informed and in control.
Supporting Your Long Term Oral Health
An emergency can also be a useful checkpoint for prevention. Once the urgent issue is settled, we can look at how to reduce the chance of it happening again. This might include restoring weakened teeth, reviewing your home care routine, or arranging periodic check ups and hygiene visits. The aim is simple: fewer surprises and more comfort over time.
